Welcome to Staton Oak Estates

Staton Oak Estates is a premier 156 home subdivision located in Flower Mound, Texas. Surrounded by recreational facilities, planned parks, and greenbelts, our community combines the conveniences of modern suburbia with the peace and quiet of the countryside.

Our community derives its name from the Staton Oak, a native post oak tree that was designated an historical tree in 1992 by the Town of Flower Mound. It is named after the Burleson Staton family that owned and farmed the surrounding 70 acres from around 1926 until 1966.

This site has been created for our members and those thinking of moving to Staton Oak. Tour our website and you will see why we love living here. The Staton Oak Homeowners Association Board hopes that through this site, our community will grow closer, and others might learn about our neighborhood. The Board also hopes that this site will serve an informational purpose for the Staton Oak Homeowners Association members to become more involved in our neighborhood as well as community issues.

2011 HOA Dues and Annual Meeting
Oct 25, 2010
2011 HOA dues will be due by January 1, 2011. You will receive a letter in the mail from the management company detailing the amount due for the year. The dues are critical for the HOA to maintain the neighborhood and retain the managment company. Please make sure to pay them in a timely manner. The HOA annual meeting will be sometime in Feburary so be on the lookout for more information. Proxy forms will be mailed out roughly one month beofre the meeting and need to be returned if you are unable to attend the meeting. Proxy forms count towards having a quorum at the meeting which is essential if we do not want to incur the costs of setting up a new meeting. Be aware that only homeowners that do not have a balance on their accounts are eligible to vote at the meeting.

Bagworm Infestation
Jul 25, 2010
Many people are suffering from a severe bagworm infestation this year. Multiple trees have died in the neighborhood including some at the Morriss entrance. The worms are particularly attracted to the evergreen trees such as Cedar and the Indian Hawthorn bushes. You know you have bagworms if you see little, about 1 to 2 inch long, pine cone looking things hanging all over your plant limbs. Having to fight the worms myself, I have done some heavy research into the best ways to eradicate them. A complete plan of attack includes fighting them while they are worms and then also when they become moths. To kill the worms, most places recommend a product that includes the bacteria, bacillus thuringiensis, or bT. This is a non-toxic, environmentally safe product that will kill any caterpillars when they eat leaves covered in it. Be aware, it will kill any caterpillar including butterflys. It should be sprayed every 7 to 10 days on the infested plants while they are feeding. I use the product, Thuricide, which is available at Home Depot. Unfortunately, the worms will begin pupating shortly and the moths should begin to emerge in the early weeks of August. So it may be too late to begin a bT spray campaign. The next step is to interrupt the breeding of the moths by trapping the males before they get to the females. This is done by the use of a pheromone trap that smells like the females. After much research, I was able to locate only one place that sells bagworm pheromone traps (each kind of moth trap uses a different pheromone). Traps can be purchased from Great Lakes IPM, Inc. for $3.70 each. I called them and received my traps in about 4 days. You should only need 1 trap for the front and 1 for the back. Hopefully, these steps will help reduce a similar infestation next year.

New HOA Collections Policy
Jun 25, 2010
Beginning July 1st, the management company, Excel, will start sending overdue payments and fines to a collection agency. This has become necessary in order to collect ever growing balances due. The policy will still be two notices by mail separated by 30 days and then it will go to a collection agency. They will then begin notifying the person responsible and take over the process. Please be aware that if a past due balance is sent to the collection agency, an extra $100 fee will be applied to the balance to cover expenses. If you find that you will have a difficult time making any payments, please contact either the management company or a member of the board. Payment plans can be arranged to spread out the costs.
